AT&T Offering Lower International Data Plans

Late last week, AT&T announced changes to their international data plans. These new plans offer more data at better rates. This is good news for the international summer traveler.

Starting Friday, June 1st, you will be able to use your AT&T phones in over 130 countries with these new data plans. There will be three options from which to choose, each showing a savings over previous packages:

  • 120 MB of data for $30/month vs 50 MB for $24.99/month
  • 300 MB of data for $60/month vs 125MB for $49.99/month
  • 800 MB of data for $120/month vs 800 MB for $199.99/month
Be sure to monitor your data usage using the AT&T app on your phone. Even though the rates are better, if you go over, the cost is still a good amount if you are just checking email. AT&T will charge users $30 for every 120 MB over their limit. This rate is consistent across each plan.

If you would like more information, AT&T provides a travel tip guide for using your phone abroad. Once you have determined the right package for your needs, remember to add it to your plan. Since charges may take a couple of days to appear on your account, be careful not to cancel the service too early. This will help avoid additional surprises later.

Enjoy your portable technology as you enjoy your summer travels.
