The Apple iPhone 6 and 6+ went on sale last week. According to numerous sources, including Apple, the big mobile carries such as AT&T and Verizon, as well as various news sources, the sales of these two devices set new records for pre-orders. All models now have a wait of a week or more for the iPhone 6 and possibly a month or more for the iPhone 6 Plus.
“It was a terrific day for our customers and us. This is our biggest iPhone, pre-order launch day ever,” said Glenn Lurie, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility. “When you combine our best-pricing, the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network, and a service experience that leads the industry, iPhone customers who choose AT&T win."
Comments from all carriers are along the same thread. They seem to be pleased with the results of the consumer demand so far. This is a positive for mobile telecoms as well as Apple as they prepare for the in-store availability of the iPhone 6 and 6+ this Friday, September 19.
Customers who wish to trade in their devices whether in-store or online from the various carriers, have some favorable options especially for older iPhones. AT&T shared trade-in values of $300 for iPhone 5S and $200 for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C. This is higher than trade-in sites like Gazelle whose rates run about $170 for an iPhone in good condition.
The AT&T trade-in program is limited to one trade-in per upgrade and available from Friday, September 12 to Tuesday, September 30. This value will be in place even if customers pre-ordered their device in the early hours of the morning on Friday, September 12.
Did you pre-order and receive your confirmation email? Are you one of the lucky masses who will receive your new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus on Friday? If you didn’t get up early enough, will you be in line somewhere to purchase the device and have it before the trucks start the local delivery for the day?
It will be a busy, busy day for retail stores and an exciting day for new iPhone 6 owners. Right now, the only place you can see a device is online. If you stop at a store after the September 19, remember to bring your old device, have a backup, turn off Find My iPhone, and be ready to choose the device in stock. Best wishes and enjoy the new technology.
